COCES Programmes

Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (COCES) is a mission borne out of a heartfelt vision to re-train, re-tool, and re-skill, a Nigerian youths to make them more relevant in an increasingly contracting global economy.

The Centre is aimed at providing skill-based and focused education with problem solving orientation through business incubation and mentorship. With these skills, on graduation, the students are to leave school not just with Curriculum Vitae, but with a Business Plan.

Distinguished, well acclaimed, and accomplished Entrepreneurs usually constitute the resource persons for the annual seminar. They include; Mr Peter Obi (Executive Governor, Anambra State); Chief (Dr.) Chika Okafor (Chicason Group of Companies); Chief G.U.O Okeke (GUO Group of Companies), Dr. John Onuorah (Chitis Confectioneries Ltd), amongst many others.

In the past year, the centre has collaborated with the Enterprise Development Centre of the Pan-African University in the Enterprise Partnership for Africa Initiative. The Centre is a top contender for the South-East coordinator of the Enterprise Development Centre.

COCES has also mentored other Entrepreneurial Centres in three (3) Nigerian Universities, namely; St. Paul University, Awka, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and Benue State University. It has become a reference centre (recognized by the Nigerian Universities Commission) where other Universities visit to generate ideas that will assist them in setting up and running their individual Centres effectively.

COCES is partnering with the Anambra State Chamber of Commerce and Industry to organize periodic seminars for their members in Onitsha and Nnewi.

Owing to the impressive accomplishments of the Centre since inception, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of Unizik was recently inducted into the Curriculum Drafting Committee (for Degree awarding programs in Entrepreneurship) by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC).

The Centre is currently offering variety of programs, which includes;

-A two year ordinary diploma for non-graduates.
-Certificate courses of short-term duration for practicing artisans and small scale entrepreneurs.
-Specialized training courses, workshops, seminars, and conferences on entrepreneurship development.
-University-wide entrepreneurial education for all 200 Level students of Unizik, Awka.
-Out of station programs for artisans and older students.
-Building a sustainable link with industry and corporate finance to lend a practical bend to the activities of the centre.
- The Centre will commence degree awarding programs in the 2011/2012 academic year.

COCES is proud to announce the completion of its permanent site, located within Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka; which is the first phase of plans towards developing a world class entrepreneurial institute that will offer immense benefits in the areas of entrepreneurial research, training and education.

The Centre comprises a state of the art, 3-wing modern structure. On entry, visitors are greeted by a spacious two level exhibition hall, which leads into a thoughtfully designed student’s lounge, high-capacity classrooms, spacious meeting rooms and administrative offices. Part of the thoughtfulness in design included the addition of two elevators to accommodate the movement of physically challenged students and the aged, because we believe education is for all.

The focal point of the design is the 450-seater auditorium. This purpose built structure will facilitate the hosting of exhibitions, dynamic conferences, academic and social events for COCES.
