The Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies COCES, Unizik became an Enterprise Development Partner to Pan-African University in 2011 where its serves as the Training Centre for South/East zone in Grooming Enterprise Leaders (GEL) Project of the Federal Government and also the YouWin programme. 

The Growing Enterprise Leaders (GEL) programme which is a holistic intervention programme meant to address the challenges of the Small and Growing Businesses (SGBs) segment of the Nigerian Economy. The GEL Programme aims to build capacity and support at least 1,000 Small Growing Businesses in the six geo-political zones of the country. Specifically this will include access to capacity building, enterprise support and access to capital (75 Billion Naira fund, through Bank of Industry).

In the South East Zone, the GEL training for 60 SGBs was conducted in COCES, UNIZIK from 10th – 14th October, 24th – 28th October and 7th – 11th Nov. 2011.  We also  trained 60 Small Growing Businesses (SGBs), (manufacturers) shortlisted from a total of 240 manufacturing businesses processed for the programme in four states from the South/East zone - Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Imo states.

The participants ran through the selected course modules such as; Introduction to Entrepreneurship; Sales and Marketing; Operations Management; Strategy, Planning: ICT for Business; Finance and Accounting; Legal; Tax and Regulatory; Couching; Corporate Governance; and Ethics etc. The participants were addressed on by staff of Bank of Industry on modalities for accessing the fund mapped out for the GEL Project.
