Cardiovascular Awareness Impact:
1.Organised several cardiovascular health awareness campaigns, some of which were held in the following locations;

2. Organised six (6) editions of the “Annual Chike Okoli Week” to mark the World Heart Day, in collaboration with Association of Community Pharmacists (ACPN) Lagos State Chapter and also with support of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Coscharis Group, Zinox Group and Kate’s Kitchen . The primary aim of the program is to provide free healthcare services and inform people around the globe that heart disease and stroke are world’s leading cause of death, and it could be avoided if the main risk factors are controlled.
The targets reached out were over 700 persons. This includes Community Members of Ikotun, pharmacists, Lagos Island East & west as the beneficiaries for the year 2012. The awareness program was designed for a Four-days; 25th -28th September 2012.
3. Regular production of articles on CVDs for Chike Okoli Foundation colunm in Pharmanews (monthly) and Vanguard (weekly).
4. Printing and distribution of the Foundation’s information materials in various hospitals, as well as some high trafficked areas around the country. These publications include Twelve (12) booklets and three (3) posters, namely;

5. Organised the six (6) successful editions of the Annual Heart & Soul Gala, a social event to mark the Foundation’s anniversary, with an average of 500 guests in each of the editions. It also serves as a unique avenue to create more awareness about cardiovascular health, and raise funds for the Foundation’s projects.
The various advocacy activities of the Foundation have enjoyed considerable interest of the public, religious and social groups, as well as the local media such as NTA, AIT, Channels TV, Silverbird TV, ABS, Wazobia Fm, Cool Fm, The Sun Newspaper, Vanguard, Daily Independent, Pharma News, and City People; all of whom have given the work of the Foundation a lot of exposure on their TV networks, radio, newspapers, and magazines.
In the last six years, the foundation has reached over 5 million people across Nigeria and sensitized them on the growing dangers of cardiovascular diseases and how to make lifestyle interventions. We are convinced however, that a larger audience have been reached through our information materials distributed in various hospitals around the Nation, and our weekly column in some print media.
6. COF organised 1st Edition of Grass Root Cardiovascular health advocacy Advocacy in partnership with Lagos State Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health in 10 selected public-owned Secondary Schools in Lagos State, which commenced 2012.
The essence of this program is aimed at enlightening the students on the need to embrace a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent heart related diseases like diabetes, hypertension, high Cholesterol (Hypercholesterolemia, Hyperlipidemia), Obesity and a sedentary lifestyle to mention but a few. Other risk factors includes; male drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, having a lot of long term stress, smoking and having a family history of a heart attack at an early age.
Besides the Foundation’s information and campaign materials which are usually distributed during the awareness campaigns, the foundation also provides referral services, for those already experiencing primary symptoms of CVDs. Chike Okoli Foundation staff (volunteers and regular) encourage and actively promote healthy living during these awareness campaigns. The Foundation hopes in the future to assist CVD patients with funds for intervention practices, whether medical or surgical.
In 6 years, the centre has recorded tremendous successes with regards to its primary aim. The center runs a two-year Diploma Programme on Entrepreneurship, yet , during the second semester of their second year. The students embark on a three (3) month Industrial Training in Industrial/Business Establishments across the country. The essence is to further expose them to real life work experience. The programme has trained over 1,600 entrepreneurs and also runs the university general course on entrepreneurship for every 200 and 300 level undergraduate students, irrespective of discipline, during second semester of each academic session since 2008/2009. Over 32,000 students have benefited from this general course on entrepreneurship introduced in Nigerian Universities by the Federal Ministry of Education through the National Universities Commission.
The students are also being exposed to practical skills acquisition in different vocation skills’ workshop that were established for them as follows:
ICT, auto mechanics, Electrical Electronics and Home Management Workshop – Tailoring Workshop, Hair Dressing and Barbing Salon Workshop, Computer Programming Workshop
The Centre has organized various workshops, seminars, and conferences have been organized by the centre for artisans, scholars, students, and members of the public, all aimed at educating and enlightening participants. Some of these include; The Annual Chike Okoli Int’l Conference (papers presented during the conference are already processed in print for publication in the maiden edition of the COCES Journal); The Annual Rags to Riches Seminar to mark the Int’l Day Against Poverty, amongst others.
EDUCATIONAL/ECONOMIC IMPACTS OF THE CENTRE.
The major educational impact is that graduates of this university, now leave the University with vision and self-confidence about how to fit into the society and become self-reliant. Most students-products, today, own businesses set up by them while still in school and make good money because of the entrepreneurial skills they have acquired. The centre has collaborated with the Enterprise Development Centre of the Pan-African University in the Enterprise Partnership for Africa Initiative. The Centre is a top contender for the South-East coordinator of the Enterprise Development Centre and the You Win Programmes projects of the Federal Government.
COCES has also mentored other Entrepreneurial Centres in three (3) Nigerian Universities, namely; St. Paul University, Awka, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, and Benue State University. It has become a reference centre (recognized by the Nigerian Universities Commission) where other Universities visit to generate ideas that will assist them in setting up and running their individual Centres effectively.
The GEL programme is a holistic intervention programme meant to address the challenges of the small and growing businesses (SGBs) segment of the Nation’s economy. This programme aims to build capacity and support 1,000 small growing businesses in the six geopolitical zones of the country. In the South East Zone, the last GEL training for 60 SGBs was conducted in COCES, from 10th-14 October, 24-28th and 7th -11t Nov 2011.
With the completion of the permanent site building , we are now repositioned for more collaboration with Government, Corporate Bodies and Institutions in the area of Entrepreneurial Development and Capacity Building for Business within and outside Nigeria be they individuals, groups, Corporate organizations and Government Establishments or Agencies.
